Attention NSO/Prelude Strings families, potential members and supporters!
Important information:
Mission of the Northeast String Orchestra is to provide young string players with opportunities to learn the fundamentals of ensemble playing and to develop their musical and technical abilities. Under the leadership of conductors Ubaldo Valli and John Burmeister, NSO and Prelude Strings members increase their joy for classical music and enhance their appreciation of the great orchestral repertoire. Please go to About the NSO for more information about our programs.![]()
The Northeast String Orchestra is a young player's musical odyssey. Founded in 2007 by two dedicated string teachers in New York's Capital Region, violinist Ellen Madison and violist Sue Nazzaro, the NSO offers students ages 7 years and older a non-competitive, enjoyable and supportive learning environment.
In addition to the Northeast String Orchestra, we have an ensemble that is designed for the beginning string player. Prelude Strings is for students who are in their first years of learning a stringed instrument - typically ages 6-11. Prelude Strings is led by cellist, John Burmeister, a specialist working with beginners. Please go to the page Prelude Strings for more information. .

We invite you to explore our website to learn more about the NSO and how our young musicians are building a sound future for music, themselves, and the community. If you are interested in learning more about the NSO - as a student, parent, volunteer, audience member, donor, advertiser or underwriter - please go to Contact the NSO and send us your questions and comments.
